Volunteering opportunity for a CNHC Registered Massage Therapist at Enable

Type: Volunteering

Date: 19 06 2024

Could you share your skills and experience as a Volunteer Complementary Therapist to support the wellbeing of people facing disadvantage?

Enable is a Substance Misuse Service which is run in partnership with the NHS & Humankind. The team operates from two sites in Enfield to provide a wide range of substance misuse services to residents, including substitute prescribing, community detox, criminal justice interventions, community care assessments, a group work programme, as well as a wide range of other interventions to non-opiate and alcohol users.

At the moment, we are looking for a therapist who is qualified in Massage Therapy, as this has proved popular with clients.

Volunteers are an integral part of our service, adding value through their skills and experience.  In this role, you will have the opportunity to use your practice to make a positive difference to the wellbeing of people who may be facing real difficulty.  You will also be part of the team and we will do our best to support you in your own development.

Details of the role:

  • Facilitating therapeutic massage sessions in a suitable space at our service (number of clients agreed locally)
  • Signposting to other activity/support the service and partners offer
  • Liaising with staff and service users to gain feedback about the service which helps inform decisions and support
  • Attending one-to-one supervisions to reflect on client sessions and experience of the role
  • Adhering to policies related to areas such as safeguarding, information governance and health and safety

Location:

Enable’s Claverings site is in Edmonton, the nearest train station is Edmonton Green. It is also on a bus route. The Vincent House site is near to Southbury overground station in Enfield. There would be the option to volunteer at either site.

Timings:

We ask that people are able to commit to a minimum of 5 hours per fortnight for 6 months but try to work around volunteers’ availability.

Training:

Volunteers have access to Humankind’s training platform, Learningkind, and will be asked to complete a number of training modules within their first 3 months, most of these are e-learning modules.

We would love you to bring to this role:

  • A recognised qualification in Massage Therapy
  • A confident and friendly approach
  • Basic IT skills
  • An understanding of the importance of guidelines and procedures relating to key areas such as safeguarding, information governance and boundaries
  • Willingness to undergo a DBS check if required for the role
  • A respectful and non-judgemental manner
  • Willingness to attend and complete relevant training
  • Willingness to attend regular supervision sessions with your supervisor.

What Volunteers can expect from us:

  • Regular supervision and support
  • Experience working in an NHS backed organisation which could help with future job prospects
  • Induction and access to online and face to face training
  • To utilise their skills/experience in a setting with service users
  • To feel part of a team and the wider Humankind organisation
  • Reasonable travel expenses reimbursed with proof of journey

Our workplace values are:

  • Honest: we are open and realistic, building trusted relationships in which we challenge, collaborate and change.
  • Committed: we are passionate about being the best that we can be, and we do this by keeping people at the heart of everything that we do.
  • Inventive: we are ambitious, drawing together skills and resources to innovate and adapt in determined pursuit of our mission.
