The Healing Hands Network seeks CNHC registered practitioners to volunteer on Forces Project
The Healing Hands Network (HHN) is a UK based charity which is: “Dedicated to the relief of suffering caused by war and disaster”. It has been working in Sarajevo in Bosnia since 1997 and last year started a project in the UK, in collaboration with Combat Stress, working with returning service personnel.
The project involves providing free complementary therapies drop-in centres usually held at monthly or two-weekly intervals. The attendees have the opportunity to call in over the space of two or three hours to receive free treatments from volunteer therapists plus advice, information and support from other military charities such as the Royal British Legion.
Many are suffering from mental trauma or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and some also have physical conditions from their time in active service.
The drop-in centres are all over the UK and the charity is constantly looking for therapists to support its work. At the moment therapists are needed in Essex, and possibly the South West/Wales area and Glasgow.
Any CNHC registered practitioner can take part. This would involve:
- Joining HHN the cost for which is £30 per year.
- Attend a briefing workshop and an informal 1:1 interview before confirmation of your acceptance.
- Trauma experience would be nice but is not essential as a briefing on PTSD is given at the workshop.
Application forms can be downloaded from the website. Copies of qualifying certificates, professional indemnity insurance, C.V. and names of two professional referees will be required.
If you are interested to help with the UK based Forces Projects or HHN’s overseas project in Bosnia you can make contact via the website or via the administrator, Sandra Griffiths on: firstname.lastname@example.org or 01885 410620.
